"Eloise's style of work reminds me of the painter Raoul Dufy and the way print maker Edward Ardizzone captures the sea and the sky in his work. Eloise's work engages with the visual culture of Norwich and Norfolk via the exciting public engagement and inclusion projects that she delivers"
Marcus Dickey Horley
Curator of Public Programmes, Tate Modern & Tate Britian
Describing her beginning and evolution as an artist, Eloise writes: ‘I started location painting a few years ago when I wanted to capture the childhood memories I had of playing on the beach in Cromer throughout the holidays. During my first year of painting, I entered ‘Paint Out Norwich’ and some other international painting competitions that featured many diverse artists from all over the world. I won third prize in the overall competition for this first attempt. The momentum of painting and the desire for locations kept growing, and two years later I won First Prize becoming the overall winner of the Norwich Paint Out Competition.'
'This current exhibition is made up of new and older work. This year I have started painting the rivers of Norwich, some of which have been included in the current exhibition. My aim is to continue painting the rivers, until the series of paintings I create (and the river itself) reach the sea.'
'I enjoy working on commissioned work for other people while on location, and running workshops and supporting inclusive art projects for the local community – one of which is the Norwich Dandies Art Group’.
