Cloth of Kindness - NNUH

The Cloth of Kindness is a contemplative arts project taking place in the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital led by the artist Sally-Anne Lomas.

The NNUH Cloth of Kindness has been made by patients, staff, visitors and volunteers at the hospital who have embroidered their thoughts and personal experiences of kindness onto patches of material that have been sewn together into the NNUH Cloth of Kindness that will be on display in the Chapel from 12th May – 30th July 2017.

Now we'd like to make Cloths of Kindness for the Big C Centre and the Dementia Wards.

You don’t need to be a skilled embroiderer to join in (though if you are that’s wonderful!) We want to include many different hands.  This is a case where it really is the thought that counts. Forming the letters out of simple stitches isn’t difficult. You may choose to write about an example of kindness that has touched you e.g. She brought me soup when I was ill. Or you could embroider a quote from a favourite book or poem that has moved you.  You can see lots of examples of other people’s responses on the NNUH Cloth of Kindness in the Chapel. Sewing is a quiet and calming activity and many people find the experience soothing.

Please join us for Sewing with Compassion workshops in the Chapel from 2-4pm every Friday from May 12th until July 28th. This will be a chance to sew in an atmosphere of caring contemplation.

Everyone welcome, all faiths or none, and no sewing skills needed!

If you would like to take part and are unable to join our workshops, sewing packs are available to collect from the Chapel or the Big C Centre.

Sally-Anne Lomas will be in the hospital every Friday from May to July so please contact her if you would like to arrange a visit to a patient or want to know more about how to join in.
