Weybourne Day Unit Expansion Complete

The artwork for the Weybourne Day Unit was similar to that of the Winterton Unit.  Art was considered in very close conjunction with interior design.  This was in order to utilise the unusual open plan layout of the unit, and create a feeling of openness and calm, as opposed to a more constricted environment.  It is hoped that for this reason it will be more soothing and healing for patients, visitors and staff alike.

The inspiration for the art work here was the flora and fauna of the surrounding area of Weybourne. Research was conducted to look into this so we had the right plants and leaf patterns to be sent to the artist.

The artist for this project was Vicki Johnson (above) Creative Director and Co-founder of Print to the People – a Norwich based organisation.  Her art has a varied imagery, combining both digital and traditional printmaking techniques.  She has a background in surface pattern design, and has over eight years’ worth of experience working on a variety of arts projects and commissions.  Her own work is inspired by folklore, surreal and vintage illustrations and patterns.  Her work also often includes birds and wildlife as she is a keen fan of nature documentaries.
